An action RPG with an emphasis on melee combat, Rise of Tarnished is based on a story that takes place in the Lands Between. The scenario is, and will be, left open-ended. Rise of Tarnished is an action RPG in which players can freely customize their own character. Rise of Tarnished is the product of the imagination of NOLF.R, a developer known for creating online titles like Lumines.
Designed from the ground up to be played in battle, Rise of Tarnished puts heavy emphasis on friendly strategies and seamless gameplay that provides a distraction-free gameplay experience. Players who enjoy trying out different avenues of tactics in battle can take their time to master different enemies. Rise of Tarnished, however, will not force the player to undertake a lengthy chapter of a story where they must make a judgment call of whether to keep on fighting or retreat.
Rise of Tarnished was developed under the concept of “a battle game that doesn’t force you to battle” and the story is not in the hands of the player. The game is rather set up with a story that players can freely decide how they want to live through, based on their own experiences.
Rise of Tarnished allows each player to freely decide the outcome of their own story, but ensures a satisfactory ending. The game itself is presented as if a drama where you, as the protagonist, have the ability to freely choose how you live in the Lands Between.
Rise of Tarnished has been released on the PlayStation 4, and is planned to be released on other platforms, including the PC, PS Vita, and Switch, at a later date.
