It has been a month since the official website for the RPG title, “Elden Ring: The Lands Between” was opened and it has been operating steady ever since. This time, as we talk with the developer, Mr. Patrick Alt and Mr. Nicolas Ledger who are the programmers for the game, we have a chance to get some news from them about the game and what they are trying to offer to the players.
Q: First, I want to start with asking about your positions in the development of the game. Who is the developer of Elden Ring?
A: I am the project manager and have overall vision for the project. Patrick is the lead programmer and Nicolas the lead designer. I’m also a writer and have ideas for the world and lore, but I’m not very good at writing.
Q: So who are the people you are working with?
A: Patrick and Nicolas are the ones responsible for the core gameplay. Our team is mostly composed of people who work full time on Larian-related titles.
Q: Could you please introduce yourself to the readers?
A: I’m Patrick Alt and I am the game’s project manager. I worked on Divinity: Original Sin, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition and many other games at Larian. I am the creator of the Duality board and the Oni system for Divinity: Original Sin and I am also the writer for the Divinity: Original Sin series and Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition.
Q: Could you talk about how the game was developed? Could you tell us about the main mechanics or features?
A: The game is built on the Larian tech. We use a 2D isometric perspective, so we have a dynamic camera system that creates new perspectives based on your path through the game’s many environments. The isometric perspective as well as our unique game engine were the basis of our previous works like Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition.
In Elden Ring the play area is enormous and you are in an expansive land. The visuals are also rather rough at this point, but we’re planning to polish them up later on. Elden Ring has an abundance of monsters and enemies. Some of the monsters are very large and bulky, but
