Spacescape is easy to use for the beginner. All you need to do is to assign a position and a size to your skybox, choose the number of stars and then you can assign a rotation and scale. This tool is powered by a native Ogre3D engine and its interface is designed to be simple to use.
You will not need to have any previous experience with any 3D authoring software to use it: it takes only minutes to start, starting from an empty scene.
Furthermore, you can easily add all the material props you need to your skybox scene: you can then easily change the colors and materials, add transparency and more props than you may want.
The following examples will show you how easy it is to create a skybox.
Note that in order to preview the stars, you will need a texture with a good resolution. If you use the default textures (in the “save” directory) you will only see a shaded cube.

Example 1: A simple skybox
Spacescape is built to create easy to use skyboxes, mostly dedicated to in-game spacescape. In this example we create a basic skybox, a stars skybox with good star distribution.
In this example, the resulting skybox looks like the following:

Spacescape has a nice 4×3 grid built-in and you can easily customize the resulting grid.
Here are the steps to use:
Load your 3D scene
Select the Tic-tac-toe grid you want to use
Unwrap your scene
In the options screen (on the left side), you have a tab called “Global”.
Under the “Scale” tab, change the scale to 4, to display the stars in a perfect 4×3 grid:
(In real scenario, you would not want to use a scale with 4. You would usually change it to 3, 5 or more depending on the scene.)
In the options screen, click on the “Scale Mult” button to display the multiplier. Then, enter 4 to make sure that the stars are displayed in a perfect 4×3 grid.
In the “Position” tab, click on the “Update Origin” button to move the position to the origin point and load the scene.
Then, in the “Stars” tab, choose how many stars you want in your skybox: 10 or 15

Creating a space skybox is just as easy as creating a billboard. By using a “billboard like” skybox you can easily create realistic looking star fields. Create a “billboard” skybox by simply placing a large number of the included stars in the open area of your choice. That’s it,
you can now render your skybox with the skyrenderer.
NOTE: Creating your skybox(s) with this tool is not recommended for the following reasons:
Creating a completely static star field is not an easy task. To create a realistic looking star field you need to generate more and more realistic star textures as you go. At some point you will want to put in some real stars and you will no longer be able to use this tool.
When creating a skybox you should make sure to use a texture projection matrix with your star textures. This will ensure the skybox is properly rendered. If you don’t use a projection matrix the skybox is rendered like a static image.
