Monitor multiple servers
ShellGuard works under Windows and connects to many different servers, including Unix and VMS servers, under both Unix and Microsoft Windows. It monitors multiple servers at the same time and can alert you to critical computer problems and network service problems, including power status, software updates, etc.
Track all the activity of all your servers
Under Windows, ShellGuard provides several dialogs. You can monitor the servers and monitor the current session. You can also start, stop and restart a session.
Some Linux Servers (I.e, SSH and Telnet servers) have a command line parameter, -l (Hint: Look for “Telnet” in the man page for the server).
Portability is one of the keys to its success.
ShellGuard has a flexible and pluggable architecture that can be modified and expanded to suit the requirements of all of your monitoring needs.
The various components of ShellGuard connect and interact via a lightweight interface. The underlying protocol is written in C and is designed to be highly portable between Windows, Unix, VMS and any other OS.
A List of components that make up ShellGuard (V1.4):
*ShellGuard Client: This is the client application and interface component of ShellGuard. It provides an easy to use interface for users of shell and serial communications programs to monitor the activities of multiple servers and communicate with them.
*Remote X Server: This component of ShellGuard allows monitoring of remote servers by displaying a window on your local machine. If your server is on a different network then use the TCP/IP protocol to connect to it and then use ShellGuard Client to monitor it from within Windows.
*Remote SNMP Server: This component of ShellGuard allows monitoring of remote servers via SNMP by displaying an SNMP MIB tree.
*SNMP Firewall Components: These are optional components used to monitor network activity and ensure that only authorized data is transmitted over the network.
*Telnet Server Components: These are optional components that allow a remote shell (on the remote server) to be connected to on the local machine.
*SSH Server Components: These are optional components that allow remote connection to many different types of servers that use SSH (Server Identify Protocol) for remote access.
*Telnet Server Components: These are optional components that allow a remote shell to be connected to on the local machine.

ShellGuard uses the WinKey+R and Ctrl+Shift+K keyboard shortcuts to launch. Simply enter the server’s name and connect. Newer versions include WinKey+R keyboard shortcut support for automated on-screen keyboard access. Later versions allow you to create keyboard shortcuts to launch sessions.
The program runs completely in the background, without hampering use of your system while it is executing. This way you can still use your computer.
