addition to the regular eyewear rules, though, some of the most well-known names in
the eyewear business were also experimenting with some of the most interesting
technologies.
A few years
before optical companies began their efforts to put transmissive filters into
eyeglasses, Cecil Zirngibl, a San Francisco scientist, patented a non-perceptible
method of combining red and green light beams into the blue light spectrum for
better color reproduction. He later devised a better method of using a special

later, in 1920, when Edwin Land invented Polaroid photography, he attempted to

transmissive, reflective Polaroid film he had recently invented. Unfortunately
for Land, Polaroid was a consumer of instant film, not a producer of instant
film, and his efforts were unsuccessful. Nonetheless, Land had discovered the
proposed market for polarizing eyeglasses for which he had tried to create the
technology.
The
increasingly popular sports and movie industries had also inspired a number of
innovations in sports eyewear. The movie industry had started using polarized
filters in the early 1920s and sportsmen soon followed.
By the
1920s polarized lenses also began appearing on sports glasses, and the polarized
sports lens trend grew during the following decade.
In
addition, a number of sport and outdoors eyewear manufacturers, including the
Halo, Cat, Sun Glass, KK, and Sunray companies, experimented with a variety of
other materials for eyeglasses, like celluloid lenses and acetate plastic, in
what was called the “sandwich technology” approach.
Celluloid
lenses were created by sandwiching polaroid, polycarbonate and celluloid
lens elements between two layers of glass or plastic. The celluloid lenses were
said to be more protective and were used for protective sunglasses, goggles and
marine applications. The Polaroid lens was used for ordinary glasses. When this
technique was first tried, however, it was later discovered that the coating on
the “sandwiched” celluloid lens peeled off when the eyeg

In the present study, the authors summarize the clinical and electrophysiological findings in five patients with sudden acute hearing loss following a large-vessel infarction that affected the midbrain, pons, and cerebellum. The goal of this study was to determine whether this hearing loss is caused by a disorder in central processing of auditory information. The authors reviewed the medical records and data of all patients who were admitted to the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the authors’ institution between August 2010 and August 2011. All five patients in the present study underwent an evaluation of auditory function and were divided into two groups:
