This is a configuration to assist editing xml2rfc-format documents using XMLMind XML Editor.
The addon is capable of graphical editing of sections, anchors, lists, cross-references, etc. and allows word processor-like behavior of “enter” to create a new paragraph or list item. It can use a locally-installed xml2rfc to format the document for preview or conversion, or use xxe’s built-in XSL transform or submit the document to the xml.resource.org web form. It provides easy hooks to validate the references to other IETF documents in your document to make sure they’re up to date.

IMPORTANT: If you use an earlier version of xml2rfc instead of xe-3.4.1, you’ll need to install a pre-release of xe-3.4.2 by bootstrapping (as described below). That’s because xe-3.4.1 would not support the latest versions of xml2rfc, which include some later changes made to the latest version of the IETF xml2rfc format.

XML2RFC is an addon to the XML Mind XML Editor (xxe) (xmlmind.org). While xxee is a very configurable word processor it lacks the basic editing features you would expect from a WYSIWYG editor. In particular, it lacks support for text fields, tables, lists, and figures.
This addon provides a very basic user interface to allow you to insert and delete those items, along with the ability to easily format the objects to your liking.
Key Features:
Editing Field: Edits a text field with similar behaviour to a word processor. Inserts a text field with specified width, border, background colour, etc.
Lists: Allows you to insert and edit lists. Allows you to use the standard list function (bullet points, paragraphs, etc.)
Pics: Inserts and edits pictures in your document. Can be used to display images, SVG, or even pictures from your PC’s hard drive.
It can also import an image to the document, export an image from the document, embed an image from a URL, and more.
Table: Allows you to insert and edit tables. The table’s appearance is similar to Word’s, and you can even style the table’s cells.
When submitting the document for conversion to the XML2RFC web form, the document is edited with all objects present in the document, and much more. You can even copy the markup used to display the object (HTML), and it can be used to re-create the object in HTML.
Cross-References: Allows you to insert and edit cross-references. The cross-reference is represented by a link to the referenced document.
It can also export the links to a text file or drop it as an image.
In order to achieve the above features, XML2RFC also provides a very basic editing mode to allow you to add, edit, and delete objects.
Notes: These are notes that appear in between the paragraphs or list items. You can have as many notes as you want, and they’re easy to add by using the right mouse button and selecting the “Insert Note” action.
You can also delete a note by using the right mouse button and selecting the “Delete Note” action.
Just like for objects, the document is also edited with all notes present, and much more. The editor provides the ability to copy the markup used to display the note, and when the note is deleted the markup is also deleted

Xml2rfc helps users and developers create RFC style documents using xml2rfc.
Xml2rfc is a WYSIWYG RSS reader for RFCs. It parses RSS feeds or HTML pages and creates RSS or HTML documents with those feeds.
When a RFC is published on the internet, it’s difficult to generate a static HTML and RSS version with the same structure. Most people have no idea how to do it. Even if someone knows, it can be a time consuming task. To address this situation, we created xml2rfc, our revolutionary RFC plugin for your favorite RSS reader.
With xml2rfc, you simply add the relevant RFCs as RSS feeds to your reader, and xml2rfc will automatically generate HTML and RSS versions of those feeds with their same structure.
Requirements:
The addon can be installed in a version of the xml2rfc that is below the install requirements of the xml2rfc library. However, it is highly recommended that you install the latest version of xml2rfc and the addon at the same time.
Additionally, you must have the xml2rfc library installed on your local machine.
If you already have the xml2rfc library installed, then try the install the addon again, as some users may have installed the library first and may be getting the following error message when starting xml2rfc for the first time:

Usually, the xml2rfc library is just a dependency of the addon. A requirement of the addon is that you install it using pip, and the xml2rfc library is installed into a folder called “xxe”. For example:
pip install –upgrade –no-deps xml2rfc

Please note that this addon is very configurable. You should make sure the help-wiz-plugin and word-processor-plugin plugins are installed before the xml2rfc plugin. The word-processor-plugin is required for some of the features, and the help-wiz-plugin has some advanced features as well.
Also note that some of the features are not available until you install the plugin plugins, and the plugin plugins are not part of the default XMLMind installation.
