Frequency Spectrum Dump Free Download is a java tool, which, given the name of an audio file, converts the input file to a csv format. Reads the raw binary data of the audio file, decodes it in order to get the audio samples, and then calculates the FFT. The FFT is performed to find the mean magnitude (spectral density) of each frequency band (bin). It also outputs a summary of the results. The results are the mean magnitudes at each frequency bin, in the specified frequency bands. It is just like the spectrogram or autocorrelogram, but it is not showing a time-line visualization. The frequency bands may be specified in a file containing one list of frequency bands per line, or may be specified as a command line parameter. It is possible to select only a range of frequency bands, for example, between 100Hz and 1000Hz. The maximum number of frequency bands is 8192. It is possible to specify a minimum bandwidth by specifying the desired bandwidth that is respected by the audio signal. You can get an idea of a band-pass filter’s response by specifying a bandwidth of a few Hz, and get a low-pass filter’s response by specifying a very high bandwidth. The magnitude of the bands is specified in decibels, either as an absolute, or percentage value, with the default value being 0dB (same as the range). The default bandwidth is 1Hz, so small frequency bands have low magnitudes. You can also specify the frequency bands to analyze in a file. If the audio input is a MP3 file, the results are shown in Time Domain, where the Time Domain indicates the time at which the sample was taken. If the audio input is a WAV file, the results are shown in Frequency Domain (Specified by the frequency bands), where the frequency is the position in Hz. The FFT bins between 0 and 15000 are shown in Hz. It is possible to define the bands in a frequency file and the frequency lines in a frequency line file. There is no maximum number of frequency lines to show, but it is possible to specify an upper limit for each individual frequency line. If the number of frequency lines exceeds the defined upper limit, the lines are omitted. The frequency spectrum is represented by a sum of frequency values normalized by the size of the audio file.
Each value is represented by the number of samples per second (samples/sec) and the 0.1 (0.1 dB) resolution of the sample rate.
For example, the number of samples representing the frequency of 64 kHz and 512 samples/sec is
samples/sec(64,512) = 1 x 10^(-3)s = 0.0015625 Hz
The frequency is then represented by the number of samples at the frequency.
As an example, a total of 40 seconds of 16 kHz/44.1 kHz sampling audio data would normally have 6.6 x 10^9 samples, but in this example the
data are zero-padded to 7.6 x 10^9 samples to give an accurate representation of the spectrum (of course you should always multiply the
data by the number of samples you actually have, not the estimated number of samples).
In addition to giving you the number of samples at each frequency, FreqDumper will give you the mean amplitude of the sample at each frequency,
which can be useful if you want to measure the intensity of particular frequencies, for example to estimate the volume in different
frequency bands.
FreqDumper will also give you the frequency resolution (1/T or 1/s resolution) at which the data were recorded.
A dialog to open the file is available for most audio file formats, including MP3, WAV, OGG.
