This book is all about this versatile tool. You can use the same title to learn the basics of Photoshop, the tools of photography, and digital-imaging techniques, and you can use the book as a reference guide for all types of projects you do in Photoshop.
You can download a version of Photoshop for free at `www.adobe.com`. You can also download tutorials for $20 to $40 or, for a more in-depth level of training, several versions of Photoshop Lightroom, for $40 to $100. These allow you to work with multiple images at once and have greater control over your images in post-processing. See the sidebar “Accessing tutorials,” later in this chapter, for more information.
## What You Can Do with Photoshop
Photoshop offers several ways of working. The most common uses for a photographer are
* **Image editing:** Editing an image involves increasing contrast, adjusting color, and removing or adding elements from the image.
* **Photo manipulation:** Manipulating the raw image in a nonlinear way, such as manipulating the exposure or changing the brightness and contrast, is called photo manipulation.
* **Layout:** Using tools that work with an image to create a layout is called _layering_ and includes working with layers and arranging them, as well as dragging layers into a new image.
* **Web design:** Using Photoshop to design a website and to create graphics and other content for web pages. You can import images or media files into the page or modify existing content.
Figure 3-1 shows the PSD file (a Photoshop document format that stores layers) from an image I made to illustrate this chapter.

Here’s a quick overview of what you can do in Photoshop and when you might use each of these functions:
* **To correct exposure problems:** When you shoot with poor exposure, you can often boost the dynamic range by increasing the amount of light and dark information in the image. For example, you can add a new layer and paint the dark areas with a black brush or gray brush, or selectively lighten the areas with a white brush or brush tool.
* **To fix poor color:** When you shoot with poor color, you can correct colors by using the Color Picker to sample colors from your image. You can also add layers and alter existing colors

This guide shows you how to edit a RAW image in Adobe Photoshop. The guide is based on the Elements version. You can also use it to edit TIFF and JPG images.
Basic Photoshop Elements editing
Before you edit your images in Photoshop, you will need to import them. You can use the Import feature in Photoshop Elements to quickly import images from a folder or a drive.
If you want to export the image to another format, you can use the Export feature. Photoshop Elements lets you convert between different file formats and sizes.
Even if you are not editing images for professional use, it is a good practice to save your images in RAW format. RAW format is the highest quality image format available. It’s more expensive and can cost up to four times more than JPG format images.
Now that you’ve imported your photos, start by opening a new project in Photoshop. Create a new blank file and name it “Junk.psd”. You can also use the Import option in Photoshop Elements.
First things first
Photoshop Elements is powered by layers. A layer is a flat area that you can move, resize, and cut out of a photo. A layer lets you separate the different parts of an image and manipulate them independently.
Layers can be visible or hidden. To hide a layer, you can use the Hidden option in the Layers panel. A hidden layer can be easily turned back on by simply unchecking the Hidden option in the Layers panel.
Using the Layers panel
To access the Layers panel, hold down the Command key (Cmd by default) and click on the black panel on the left-hand side of your screen. The Layers panel opens up and displays the layers used in your image. To hide a layer, click on the eye icon.

Now that you have your project opened in Photoshop, you will need to create a new layer. This tutorial has four steps:

How to remove or add JavaScript (jQuery) library?
I’m using XAMP locally. I had many web pages opened in a second browser windows (using Ie). Now I want to remove some them, but from the top, I can’t find the right place to delete (right-click) my JavaScript (jQuery library) from.
My question:
How do I add or remove JavaScript (jQuery library) from my localhost XAMP without having any problems (e.g. the pages won’t work)?

You can edit the HTML which includes the JavaScript you wish to remove and the code is the same across all browsers.
In most of the HTML editors and DreamWeaver, there is an option of “code view”.
Click on code view in the HTML editor. You’ll be shown only the JavaScript.
Edit the page and remove the JavaScript.
Nairn–Eynhallow Highland railway
The Nairn–Eynhallow Highland Railway was a subsidiary of the Scottish Central Railway, built to carry iron ore from Kincardine O’Neil on the east coast of Scotland to the Argyllshire mills of Eynhallow.
History
The line was built with a gauge. This made it the second narrow gauge company in Scotland after the Paisley and Johnstone line. Originally the intention was to connect the quarries at at in Kincardine O’Neil to the Argyllshire ironworks at Eynhallow. In 1848 this was extended westwards to a loading pier on Eynhallow bay. A competing line from Airdrie in Lanarkshire was also promoted, and the Scottish Central Railway Company built a road (numbered 4) from Airdrie to the new Eynhallow pier.
In 1856 the Eynhallow harbour and railway were formally transferred to the Scottish Central Railway Company. The line was used by barges carrying iron ore over the Tay and by rail for the rest of its life, in the days before electrification and road haulage.
In the 1960s the East Argyllshire Railway Society took over the line to the Haliburry Branch Junction, and installed a single track to his station on the site of the old Sidlaw Road Mine.
What’s New In Photoshop CS4?
Microsoft’s IE team has been quietly working on their own answer to Chrome and Firefox for a while, and now it’s finally been released. The long-awaited new browser, dubbed Microsoft Edge, is now available for Windows 10 and Windows 7 users in the Windows Store.
Edge will be a Microsoft-built browser, and is built on the same engine that powers the company’s modern Xbox gaming console. There’s no reason to think you’ll have any trouble switching from your current browser to Edge, however. According to Microsoft’s head of IE, John Wickman, the browser is built on a new version of Trident, the same web engine inside of IE11 and Edge. This means that Edge works completely independently from IE and its other browsers.
More importantly, Edge will work with Microsoft’s Office suite. This means that you’ll be able to open documents and save them using Edge, which is the same engine that drives Office Online — the service that lets you edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote documents from within the browser. It also means that new features in Edge will work in Office, and that Edge-specific settings will be saved in the cloud, no matter what browser you use.
In the video below, Wickman demonstrates how to sign into Office Online in Edge. The first time you launch the browser, a modern Xbox controller will pop up, and you’ll be able to use it to sign into the service. You can then open an Office Online document, edit it, and save it using the Xbox controller. The same thing applies to Edge’s new productivity apps, OneNote and OneDrive.
You’ll be able to access and edit files without leaving the browser. Editing files should be easier, because Edge will feature many of the same tools and controls that you’re used to in modern browsers. This means that you’ll be able to resize files and view them in a zoomed-out view as easily as you can in a modern browser. You can also use Edge’s Favorites bar to save websites you like and save them so you can access them faster next time.
There are a few big highlights missing from Edge. There’s no support for extensions, and you can’t use it for productivity apps in the same way you can with Chrome or Firefox. There’s also no built-in ebook reader, which is a major omission on a browser intended to be used in the browser. Chrome and Firefox include an ebook reader built right in, and it works well.
