Introducing the UAC:
The User Account Control is a Windows security mechanism, it is built to add another layer of security for the end user and limit what program can be done. It is triggered by a very simple task as just adding a new program to the system, “add” button.
Once the user add the program the UAC will prompt for the administrator’s password to allow the program to run, a pop up window is shown at the top of the screen with the title notifying the user about the UAC prompt. The default setting is that the UAC has to be accepted in order to install or uninstall a program from the “Add or remove programs”. This is useful in a computer where a lot of software is installed or a new program.
Once the UAC window appears, its contents depends on the developer of the software itself. For example, a program from Microsoft should make a message saying that the software needs to be updated in order to keep it up to date, and the user should follow the instructions to update. Other programs will make a message which says the installer does not require admin privileges to run, or just a message which states that the program is in use and the user should restart the computer.
Notice that the UAC will also ask for admin rights to remove the program, even if the UAC was already accepted or not accepted. The same thing happens in a case that the process the program runs in needs admin rights or not. The only exception will be to start an important software, like antivirus or anti-spyware.
