A cleaner at the site of the protest said it was the second such death in a week, and said he was ordered to throw the man into the river.
Mohammed “was in a critical condition,” Osman said. “He was not breathing normally when he was pulled out of the river. And he was in really bad shape.”
His death came as the Muslim Brotherhood and others were continuing to press Egypt’s interim military rulers to respect their guarantees that people accused of Islamist terrorism would never be released under an amnesty, the group’s leader, Mohamed Morsi, said.
