The fact that no correlation was observed suggests that maternal exposure to 6-MP is not associated with maternal alloimmunization or an intercurrent infection. We propose that maternal exposure to 6-MP produces a macrocytic anemia by a mechanism which is characterized by stimulation of erythropoiesis in the bone marrow. This marrow stimulation is not related to the development of autoimmune hemolytic anemia or a transfusion-related hemolytic anemia, but is a direct effect of the drug.Q:
