D.G. Net Meter is a basic application that helps you keep an eye on network traffic, showing both download and upload rates in a simple floating graph.
You don't really need advanced computer experience to use the program, but it's very unlikely to see beginners interested in such an application, so you shouldn't spend too much time trying to figure out how to use it.
Besides the aforementioned graph, there's no actual interface, so all configuration options can be instantly accessed with just a single right click on the System Tray icon.
You can for example adjust opacity and thus tweak the graph to better fit your screen, but also set up the shown values. You can see either real-time stats or totals since your launched the app, with dedicated options to set all values.
Sadly, there are no interface tweaks, which means that you aren't even allowed to change the colors of the graph or select another layout.
On the good side, the app doesn't slow down the system at all and it runs smoothly on all Windows versions currently on the market. No administrator privileges are needed on Windows 7 platforms.
All things considered, D.G. Net Meter clearly serves its purpose, but there are way too many things to be improved, starting with the interface and ending with the available customization options. The good thing is that it requires only basic computer knowledge and most of the built-in features can be accessed with just one click.

How to Install D.G. Net Meter:
Download and install D.G. Net Meter from this page.
After installation, go to All Programs or Start menu and launch D.G. Net Meter to open the software.
Click on the System tray icon.
Click on the right mouse button on a network interface and select Customize.
Click on the minus icon ( – ) to minimize the graph.
Click on the right mouse button on the network interface and select Set Default.
Click on the right mouse button on the network interface and select Customize Graph Settings.
Change the graph type to Average.
Change the show value to MB or KB.
Set the period to 1s.
In case you only want to monitor traffic from a given connection, add it on the interface in the Section “Traffic Monitor”.
The values in the graph will update every minute.
The network interface where you see the most used traffic is displayed as “Network Monitor”.
Press the right mouse button on this network interface to change its color.
Set the network interface where the least used traffic is displayed as “Network Monitor”.
Click on the graph to sort it by traffic.
Set the graph’s opacity to 60%.
Click on the graph to zoom in or out.
Click on the graph to center it.
Launch the software to see the graph in action.
How to Use D.G. Net Meter:
The interface is quite plain, but you can make the application better by adjusting its few customization options.
