The Photoshop drawing tools

Photoshop offers a simple interface that lets you draw in the image like a painter. The line drawing tools enable you to draw and then transform and edit those lines.

The brush tools enable you to paint colors into the image. Figure 6-10 shows the tools on the Tools panel. You can choose Tool modes and use a variety of effects that make your drawings stand out.

Photoshop provides a plethora of brushes, as shown in Figure 6-11. The brush controls include a scroll bar for switching between brushes and a drop-down menu for loading different brush libraries. These libraries contain a large collection of brushes and can be created, edited, and used anywhere you like.

You can use the Brush tool to create textured or fancy brush effects, which are really fast to apply but look pretty cool. You can select textured brushes from the Brush Controls tab on the Brush panel, illustrated in Figure 6-12.

By adjusting the Size and Opacity sliders, you can create a brush effect that varies in size and how much light shows through it. You can also move the position of the brush tip with the Position slider.

You can use the regular brushes to draw fine lines, as shown in Figure 6-13, or you can use the Rectangular or Eraser brushes to draw free-form shapes.

How to replace the stock Applications with custom Windows 10 apps

We will guide you through the process of replacing the stock Windows 10 applications with custom Windows 10 apps from the Windows Store.

Although this guide will cover replacing the stock email app with Microsoft’s default Outlook app from the Windows Store, you can also replace the stock Twitter, Slack, Facebook, and Google apps with Microsoft’s default apps.

Step one: Find what you want to replace

Start by searching in the Windows Store for the app you want to replace. If you are unfamiliar with Microsoft’s apps you may find some of them easier to use.

For example, when searching for Facebook you will be faced with five options, so start with the Facebook section, then use the Additional filters to narrow your options.

I chose the Facebook app because it can be used as a template for replacing any of the main apps on Windows 10.

Before you start, you should download the Office apps from the Microsoft Store on your device. This is because you will be extracting the files you need for the apps you replace.

If you do not download the Office apps from the Microsoft Store your device will not let you edit the Office documents stored in the OneDrive cloud service.

Step two: Import the files you need

The files you will need to edit are located in the Downloads folder.

As an example, you will be replacing the stock Facebook app with the new Facebook app from the Windows Store. To download the Facebook app for Windows 10 follow these instructions, download all the files you need, and unzip them.

Select a folder and then right-click > Extract all.

Drag the extracted files into your Downloads folder (you can do this by dragging the.appx file for each app into the Downloads folder).

Step three: Edit the files

Double-click the.appx file for the Facebook app in the Downloads folder.

Choose what you want to change and then start editing the app.

Step four: Replace the app

Right-click the.appx file for the original app you want to replace and then select Replace.

If you want to replace the Twitter app you would follow the same steps but replace the appx file with the one

Intersection of two binary files

I have two files of the same size. Each file contains a bunch of binary information. I need to find the intersection of the two binary files.
E.g.,
File #1:
00001111
00001110
00000111
00000111
00001111

File #2:
00000011
00000011
00000011

I need to see only
00001111
00001110
00000111

Is there a good way to do this on Ubuntu (one line solution)?

If the file sizes are identical, you can use grep to print only matching lines from both files:
grep -zf file1.txt file2.txt

-z counts lines in both files by default, but uses empty lines as delimiter in file1, so we only print lines which have exactly one character between them, which is what we need from file2.
But if the files are small enough that it does not matter, the following would be easier:
head -1 file1.txt | head -1 file2.txt

Both files will contain the same number of lines.
The advantage of head -1 is that it is much faster. For example, if the files are only 2,000,000 bytes, and the matching lines are only a couple of bytes long, this would still only take about a half second.
If it takes more than a second to compute the intersection, the problem with the first solution is, that it is not very short. The reason for this is, that there will be a lot of empty lines in the file2.
The solution here is to pipe the output through less to make it a bit shorter. You can do this with:
grep -zf file1.txt file2.txt | less
